Can the Flyers interest you in a slightly used Mark Streit? He's in need of a new timing belt, 4 new tires, possibly a new motor, and the on-board electronics seem to malfunction. But if you can repair them all, he can successfully run a PP and not be a complete defensive liability.

Honestly I don't really think we need another defenseman. The Devils should really just look to developing the ones we got (assuming we resign Schlemko) and giving Severson more time on the powerplay. That would give us 6 guys with Greene-Larsson, Schlemko-Severson, and Merrill-Moore. And with the final spot, we can pick one of Helgson, Mozik, Hrabarenka, or Scarlett to take the final spot as the 7th defenseman (I would go with Helgson considering he is already 25). I'd even be up for having Santini play assuming he can dislodge Merrill from the lineup.

Either way, we have the parts in the system and don't really need to look elsewhere. We have 6d currently on the roster and plenty of players who've probably learned what they needed to at the AHL level.

I see what you're saying about letting the young guys play, but let's start by stating that Merrill should not be an option next year. AT BEST he's a 6 or 7 d-man. I think if you could get a guy on a short term deal, 2-3 years, then it makes sense to splurge. Santini could be a fit back there at some point, but he's not NHL ready, and I don't think Scarlett is ready either; same with Helgeson. I'm not saying those guys aren't good or won't be good, but let them develop and go through the process--there's no need to rush. I actually think this was an error with Merrill--we brought him up to early.

All that being said...I don't know who will be willing to take a 2 year deal to come to Jersey, but who knows??

Speers and White signed ATOs for the playoffs. Albany is really loading up I am hoping for a deep run. Blackwood got player of the week. Feels like years since I had any optimism about the NJD farm system.

I trust Shero to figure out the D and it's not a huge concern. If we can land a high quality offensive defenseman (like Yandle) great, but we're in decent shape either way. Schlemko or a stopgap are fine.

I'm also hopeful Severson will improve. There's lots of potential and he's really young.

This team will live or die next season based on the offensive players signed...

I'm not sure, we get good ex-Anaheim prospects (DSP, Palmieri). We only get Pens rejects (Warsofski, Farnham).

Sure he isnt that good defensively and does turn the puck over but we need offense

I'd be all for signing demers. Had no idea he's going to be a UFA. Definitely an upgrade over Merril. We can definitely get more out of Severson. They just need to feed him 20 minutes a game and watch him blossom. I think we can get a little more offense out of Moore as well.

I'd be very interested there, but as you mentioned, probably going to be more expensive than we could go to trade for him. I'd keep an eye on Minnesota too. Dumba is an RFA and they have severe cap issues and 4 defenseman signed through at least 2020. You have to figure someones got to go there.

I know that Shattenkirk could be available being a UFA after next season. Don't like trading for potential UFA's but could be a decent option as well.
